Joni Mitchell BLUE (ROCKTOBER 2026) Reissued through Rhino 55 years on, Joni Mitchell's Blue album is by far her most renowned, being the one to prompt Kris Kristofferson's famous, half-joking plea: "save something for yourself, Joni!" Understood as one of her most nakedly autobiographical records, 'Little Green', 'California' and 'The Last Time I Saw Richard' are but a handful of songs here tracking her own relationships and emotional state at the cusp of the 70s, at which time she'd just split up with Crosby, Stills & Nash's Graham Nash. Intimate and revealing, Mitchell's voice and lyrics evoke pretty garlands, roadhouse get-togethers and a newfound sense of freedom, before a tonal shift in the latter third unearths the grief underneath.
